The Defense Technology Initiative (DTI), born from the region's successful 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) efforts, is currently working to develop a sustainable New England strategy that will both strengthen the region's defense technology cluster and provide specific business opportunities for its members. DTI Names Leadership Team

As the Council and the Defense Technology Initiative (DTI) work to strengthen the region's defense technology sector and lay the groundwork for the next BRAC (likely in 2015), former UMass President Jack Wilson has been named DTI chairman. Dr. Wilson will be joined on DTI's leadership team by Fred Strader, president and CEO of Textron Systems Corp. and Lisa Aucoin, director of soldier solutions at BAE Systems. Council Supports Cellucci in Fight Against ALS

The Council recently hosted former Governor Paul Cellucci and Dr. Robert Brown of UMass' Medical Center to help support the ALS Champion Fund, a $10 million research fund to find a cure for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Governor Cellucci was recently diagnosed with ALS, a debilitating and terminal disease that affects the body's neurological system.
