Cost Competitiveness (Fiscal Policy)
Under the leadership of Jim Green, CEO of Analogic Corp., and Mike Bonney, CEO of Cubist Pharmaceuticals, the Cost Competitiveness Team has revised and will sustain annual updates to the MHTC State Tax Competitiveness Study (first produced in 2008); analyze data and identify top policy priorities; identify and draft legislative proposals; and execute a policy strategy in accordance with the selected competitiveness priorities. Talent Development (Education Policy)
Under the leadership of Chris Zannetos, CEO of Courion and Al Bunshaft, Managing Director of Dassault Systemes, the Talent Development Team has established goals that will ensure we have the needed quantity and quality of technology talent necessary to continue Massachusetts' reputation as a global technology-industry leader. Defense Technology Initiative (DTI)
In collaboration with several state and quasi-state agencies DTI will continue the New England Defense Sector Study project with incremental reports, and continue to work in collaboration with the Task Force to protect and grow Mass. military installation missions. We will continue to organize Mass. leadership and stakeholders around key defense investment areas, including cyber security, to create opportunities despite declining federal budgets. We will continue to identify and advocate for key policies aimed at lowering the cost of doing business in Mass., improving education and workforce development focused on STEM, and for key programs such as the F-35 which has a tremendous supply chain tail throughout Mass. and New England. Roundtable with Mass. House Speaker

MHTC hosted a CEO Roundtable with House Speaker DeLeo and Council members on February 20. In the highly interactive discussion, Speaker DeLeo received input from—and provided perspective to—members regarding the twin challenges of resolving the state budget deficit and calls for massive “investment” in transportation infrastructure and early childhood education—all while doing no harm to the state’s climate for job creation.

Annual Meeting
February 26, 2013

2013 Annual Meeting, February 26. MHTC Chairman Pete Nicholas (Boston Scientific Corporation) acknowledged the outstanding accomplishments of the Council to date and presented a strategic vision for the future outlining goals and objectives for 2013 and beyond. Members also elected Ellen Lord (Textron), Jim Boyer (KPMG), and Michael Kendall (Goodwin Procter) officers of the Council.
