Energy Program

In 1996, the Council, working directly with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, provided participating members the opportunity to shape the future of the state’s restructured energy market. By designing an innovative statewide pilot program, 14 members reduced their electricity costs by millions of dollars over 18 months in the first competitive procurement of electricity in Massachusetts history.

Since passage of the resulting Electric Utility Restructuring Act in 1998, the Council has been on the leading edge of the evolving energy market providing more than 40 high tech firms with aggregate energy savings approaching $100 million. Our partners at energy supply and service firms have provided members with additional value added as we created new energy products and services exclusively for Council members.

EnerNOC Partnership

Working with EnerNOC, our trusted energy management partner, the Mass. High Tech Council can help you navigate the energy industry to create value for your organization. EnerNOC can help Council members achieve up to 20% savings in locations across the U.S. in annual energy spend through its suite of energy management applications.

Members can receive payments for reducing energy a few times a year(DemandSMART), drive costs down by using energy more efficiently 24x7x365 (SiteSMART), buy energy more cost-effectively and in line with budget priorities and risk tolerance (SupplySMART), and easily report greenhouse gas emissions for required or voluntary reporting standards (CarbonSMART).

This case study details how The Beal Companies, a Boston-based commercial realtor, saves $1 million annually on energy costs through SupplySMART.

“What EnerNOC really helps us do is go out and get contracts years in advance with tremendously advantageous rates. Having more control over our energy costs is a real advantage to us and our tenants.” - Dean Leventman, The Beal Companies
